Arriving 1am at Sheremetyevo airport, it was diiffult to ignore the sheer size and neon lights across Russia’s capital, this city clearly never sleeps. It has been over 10 years since my last trip here and things have noticeably changed. The capital is now boasting with so many pristine, wide and well lit streets going so well together with the beautifully looked after buildings.
Our Airbnb was placed near Chistye Prudy (чистые пруды), and an uber ride there only cost around 900 rubles from the Sheremetyevo airport, how amazingly cheap is that for a 40minute ride?!
Below is our schedule of this very short but memorable stay:
As we walked to Red Square we had breakfast at Cafe Babetta –
we had запеканка (russian version of light not sweet cheesecake to be had for breakfast) and сырники (mini not sweet cheesecakes to die for!)
Red square &
Храм Василия Блаженного St Basil’s Cathedral (1st picture above)
GUM (shopping mall)
Lunch and drinks at стрелка институт Strelka
Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (1st picture below)
Got lost around Moscow metro looking for beautiful stations. We started at Arbatskaya, then went to Kievskaya, then back to Arbatskaya, changed to different line, got off at Chehovskaya, walked via Tverskaya and finally got to Mayakovskaya (Маяковская)
We took an uber to get some drinks at beer & brut
Took another uber to Ленинградский вокзал (Leningrad Rail Station) where we took an overnight train Red Arrow departing at 23:55 to St Petersburg.
That train journey was amazing and only cost around 65GBP for 1st class travel and breakfast in comfy clean bed!
